With delight I share with you a living-testimony of a Christ-honoring courtship -- a Valentine story of the sweetest kind yet unfolding. Who would have thought that when we all set out last year on a journey in living-history throughout Scotland, that it would set the course of the future for this admirable one young man and his precious bride-to-be! And since my young friend relates it so very well, I am going to let him tell the story in his own words that he wrote to me.

Dear Little Bear,

I'm writing to share some wonderful news from my life over the past few months since the great 2009 Landmarks of the Faith Tour of Scotland. When I mailed my application for the tour back in January, I really didn't know why I was going on the tour -- perhaps it sounded like a "fun vacation" for my sister and me. However, after returning from the weeks overseas, I could see God's hand at work in my life (through your teaching) in two specific ways. The first was an encouragement to memorize Scripture, especially after our time in the Whig's Vault of Dunnottar Castle, and your exhortations to prepare today for the persecution that will likely come in the future. That really made an impression on my heart, and I'm so thankful that God worked through His Spirit in you to share that exhortation when I needed an extra shove to start work on memorizing God's word. I just recently (by God's grace alone) finished memorizing an entire chapter from Romans and I'm a good ways through the first chapter of Philippians!! I believe that the engrafted word of God will yield serious returns in my life in the future, and I want to thank you for being willing to used by God's Spirit to spur me on in this discipline of memorization.

The second major way that God spoke to me through the tour was again through a talk that you gave in the cloisters of Iona Abbey about the eleventh century Queen Margaret. God spoke directly to my heart through your talk about a man becoming the man he should be because of a woman in his life. Your challenge to young men who are surrounded by many fine young ladies, really hit a nerve, especially when you talked about young men who are "content to be single" and unwilling to get up the guts to pursue a young lady for marriage. When I heard you sharing that lesson directly to the young men on the tour (of which I certainly was one who needed to hear the message), it was as if God was speaking directly through you to me. You see, I was one of those young men who was quite content to be single, and I had no desire to change my ways or pursue self-improvement or responsibility. But God was speaking to me that day, and I couldn't get away from that message - so, there on the Isle of Iona, I purposed to follow this word from the Spirit and "man up" to the challenge of pursuing marriage. I had no clue what such a decision would really mean for my life, and I remember telling God, "If you want me to do this, God, you're going to have to work an amazing miracle and show me the steps I must take."

Before we even left Scotland, God was already at work. My dad e-mailed me and told me about the exceptional character that he had seen in the life of a young lady that I've known for more than nine years. I initially shrugged it off, thinking that such a message from my dad couldn't be God at work, especially this soon. But when I got home, my dad didn't have to do any convincing. God was already at work in my heart and showing me that this young lady was truly worth the battle. And thanks to the challenge that God spoke into my life through your message on Iona that day, I had the "shove" I needed to take steps down a brand new road that God opened up in my life. To make a long story short, God gave the strength and the faith for me to take some rather bold steps in talking to the parents, and then eventually to the young lady herself. All along, I feared that I would be unable to pursue such an amazing jewel -- this girl is definitely a Queen Margaret! To my utter amazement, God had been working in her life, and she happily accepted my request to pursue her and win her heart. One month (minus a day) later, after a courtship filled with incredible evidences of God's amazing work in each of our hearts, I asked her to marry me. And she said yes!

This is obviously only the beginning of a brand new chapter in my life, but I knew that I must share this story with you and thank you for allowing God to use you in my life. Because of your courageous words on two separate occasions during the Landmarks of the Faith Tour of Scotland, God was able to work mightily in my life, and He is still at work in amazing ways. Little Bear, you are an incredible example to me and an awesome man of God -- I'm praying that someday God will be able to use me in the lives of others even as He has used you in my life. May God richly bless you as you have truly blessed me!!
